Name:sidney vaisey
Bio
The Basics

Character Name: Sidney Vaisey
PB: Kian Mitchum

Age: 19
Birthday: July 17, 1981
Wand: 11 inches, Cherry, Unicorn tail hair.
House in School: Slytherin
Bloodline: Pure enough to call himself such in good faith but not so pure that there's never been a halfblood or two in the family.

Political View:
In theory Sidney supports the Death Eaters, in practice, he supports what's best for him at any given moment. Unlike a lot of his peers Sidney doesn't hate muggles, he's certainly distrustful of them, and after all, wizards in general wouldn't be hiding from them if they didn't think something was amiss. More than anything else he doesn't like halfbloods and muggle borns, they're the ones who think they can tell pureblood wizards what to do, not the muggles themselves. So really, this was just a roundabout way of saying Sidney believes in the basic tenets of the Death Eater's but the thinks they went about things the wrong way. He never joined because he wouldn't dream of getting his hands dirty, he left the hard work to the other pureblood boys.
Appearance

Height: 5'6
Weight: 125 pounds
Eyes: Sidney's eyes are very dark brown and being half Korean, it's needless to say his eyes aren't exactly large. In fact, they're quite a bit smaller than he would like them to be.
Hair: He was blessed with rather nice hair. When he leaves it alone its glossy and black, however, he gets sick of his hair when it's like that so he'll often charm it a lighter, sort of reddish colour. He thinks it makes him look less washed out.
Build: Slight is the word that comes to mind when most people look at Sidney. It isn't apparent enough that he would be referred to as underfed but he does need to either gain a few pounds or start lifting weights to at least tone up the little muscle he has.
Dress Style: Sidney's dress style depends on where he is. In the wizarding world he sticks with plain robes, he isn't one for loud colours. They're usually of a fine quality but he won't be caught dead wearing silk or anything else that feminine. If he was going to wear that he might as well put on a dress! When he wants to blend in with the muggles he wears jeans, layered shirts and simple shoes. His clothing style in unremarkable in every way.
Basic Physical Description: He has a small face and petite features. He's been told he looks exactly like his mother, which is a little embarrassing but flattering at the same time because Sidney thinks she was the most beautiful woman in the world. The one thing he likes most about his looks is how symmetrical his face is, everything lines up nearly perfectly on one side to the other. His small eyes and high arched eyebrows give his face an expressive quality, one that would almost be of perpetual shock, if he didn't consciously make sure there was usually a pout or a sneer gracing his features. A small nose and full lips give him a rather feminine quality.
Defining Marks: On Sidney's right side he has a tattoo of a cityscape that covers most of his rib cage and right underneath his collarbone on the left side is a tattoo of a sparrow.

Personality

Sidney is a study in contradictions. In most cases, to most people, he's extremely emotionally guarded. There are very few people in the world that have been offered a glimpse into Sidney's life. Even his former friends didn't know much about him, they were aware of his various likes and dislikes and they were fairly certain Sidney probably talked about them when they weren't around but other than that he was a blank canvas. Sidney suffers from the typical lost child syndrome often displayed by children who come from dysfunctional homes. As a kid he sought the privacy of his own company to be away from the family chaos and developed a rich fantasy life, into which he withdrew. He daydreamed, read a lot of books, played games which required imagination and wasted a frightening amount of time setting up elaborate games of dominoes. He dealt with his rather horrifying reality by pretending to be someone else, anywhere other than at home with a father who ignored him and a mother who had no choice not to. Now Sidney denies he has any feelings until the unfortunate time come where he displays an inappropriate emotional reaction, most likely at an inopportune time. For the most part he doesn't bother getting upset because he knows he doesn't have anyone to go to that would really care to help him sort out his problems. Sidney has grown up to find himself, for the most part, unable to publicly feel and suffers from very low self-esteem. He is absolutely terrified of intimacy to the point where he'll purposely sabotage any potential relationship, whether it's romantic or platonic. He still suffers from confusion and conflicts about his sexual identity and functioning.

Sidney has poor communication skills, cultivated by his voluntary solitude and perfected by the amount of time he spent around his peers unable to communicate fully due to not being able to completely speak and comprehend English. Sidney is very withdrawn and shy; he's become socially isolated because that's the only way he knows to be safe from getting hurt. Because Sidney has very few friendships he often seeks comfort in his material possessions and he definitely loves his cats more than a nineteen year old man should. This pattern of escape prevents him from seeking professional help, and so he'll remain stuck in his social isolation until the time comes when he can't take it anymore. It helps that he knows his behavior is damaging and he's fully aware of how dysfunctional he is. On the bright side, his loneliness was conducive to both creative and spiritual pursuits. Photography gives him an opportunity to hide behind characters of sorts when Sidney has to present his work to the public. Despite all this Sidney expects the few people he knows to be there for him exactly when he wants them to be, to always say the right thing to make him feel better and to know instinctively what he needs. He'll tell someone to go away but is actually quite upset when they acquiesce to his request. Sidney is selfish beyond reason, possibly because he's used to only looking out for himself but more likely because he just is.

The war has changed Sidney. It's lead to an identity disturbance which has him constantly questioning himself, his life goals, career choice, values and morals, if he still has any that is. If there’s one thing Sidney is proficient at it’s lying, even though his actions leave him with the feeling that no one can be trusted if he can't even trust himself to tell the truth. His constant brooding, resentment and often inappropriate anger hasn't done much to endear him to anyone. Sidney is often highly confused and on edge due to lack of sleep and the nightmares which are bound to occur if he does manage to drift off. Not many people know what Sidney is really like because he hides behind a facade of detached confidence. He refuses to let anyone in on how pathetically vulnerable he is, because he knows they'll find a way to take advantage of him and exploit his insecurity. At least, that's what he would do. In many ways Sidney is the perfect Slytherin. When it comes to certain things his ambition is nearly unparalleled, he's willing to do anything, or hurt anyone, to sell even one piece of his photography. However, in many other facets of his life and personality Sidney falls short. He doesn't possess the charisma and way with words required to be extremely successful. He isn't one for clever quips and double entendres and he certainly isn't as eloquent, or pretentious, as many of his classmates. Sidney is so used to being ignored he'll put up with much more than most other people as long as he's being given the attention he feels he deserves.

At first glance Sidney seems vapid and self absorbed, which he is to a point. He's quiet because he has poor social skills but also because it's not often that he has something incredibly worth while to say. In general he's perfectly fine with letting people believe he's stupid, in fact, he usually plays it up. He subscribes to 'the stupider they think I am, the less likely they are to suspect me' school of thought. In reality he actually isn't the brightest. Sidney is good at memorising facts and looking things up in a book, he did well in school because it wasn't that difficult to read the text and write down what it said. When it comes to practical application of magic Sidney falls short, there's no doubt in his mind that most seventh years could beat him in a duel. Sidney has the arrogance of a child who grew up knowing he has more money than you. He relishes the fact he'll never have to put in a hard days work, partly because he knows if he wanted a job he could go work for his father's publishing firm and partly because he's fairly certain it would be difficult to find a job if not for his connections. Sidney isn't much more than a kid with every material possession he could ever ask for and a pretty face.
Psychology

Extrovert/Introvert: Introvert
Boggart Would Be: A horse. When Sidney was young he used to live on quite a few acres in the Irish countryside, like many privileged children in his area he owned horses. There was one he liked the best, Rioghan, a brown and white spotted horse which seemed to exist more to look pretty than to actually be ridden. That was fine with Sidney, he was terrified of heights and at that age getting on a horse seemed like it was miles above the ground. Everyday when he was home Sidney would groom the horse, feed it and keep it company. One day when he came back from a holiday he took with his mother and noticed something wasn't right with Rioghan, being young and stubborn he wanted to figure out what was wrong with the horse himself. When he got close enough Rioghan took off running right at him, it knocked him down and stepped on his stomach. Luckily his mother was close enough to petrify the horse. Later on Sidney found out his favourite horse had somehow acquired rabies. It was the first time he realised that even things you love can turn on you and he's been terrified of horses ever since.
Patronus Would Be: Sidney hasn't been able to produce a corporeal patronus since he left school, he doesn't have any idea why, it just seems no matter how hard he tries all that comes out of his wand is silver mist. The last time his patronus took a shape it was a raccoon, for no specific reason other than he really likes the animal.
Sexuality

Sidney is homosexual. Being raised Catholic it was hard to come to terms with, he tried to convince himself that it was just a phase but nothing he did could fully convince him that he isn't attracted to men. At nineteen years old Sidney is inexperienced for his age, he generally isn't comfortable with intimacy and the type of man he’s attracted to is difficult to come by. He likes them older, pureblood and rich. Most of the men like that are already married with children and he isn't looking to become a home wrecker.
Lifestyle

Occupation: Professional rich kid.
Residence: Sidney still lives at home with his father in Ireland. He would get a flat of his own but he lacks the drive to do it when he has a perfectly nice house to live in.
Financial Status: Sidney has to rely on his father to give him money. If the day ever came where he was cut off he wouldn't have a cent to his name until he turns twenty-one and gets the inheritance his mother left him.
Family

Parents: Simon Vaisey (Irish) Choi Hei (Korean)
Siblings: A much older half brother, James, from his father's first marriage.

Parents Relationship: Strained, yet generally pleasant. There was no real love between Hei and Simon, they liked each other and there was mutual respect in the relationship, but love never factored into the equation. They met in the way most purebloods from different countries do, they were introduced by their parents, or rather, Hei was introduced by her parents and Simon happened to know a friend of a friend. The Choi's were looking to move to Britain and they needed a way to secure their standing in pureblood society, the perfect way was to marry their daughter to a man that didn't need to work his way through the ranks. It wasn't quite as dramatic as it sounds, Hei and Simon got along well and they both knew they had a duty to perform. It was convenient and it helped that they wouldn't spend the rest of their lives miserable. Once they got married they had a child as soon as possible. After that the pressure was off, they didn't have to pretend to be something they weren't anymore. Once Sidney was born they lived more like roommates and mutual care takers than lovers. Even though Hei didn't love Simon, she hated knowing that he didn't love her.

Relationship with parents: Sidney and his father haven't had an easy history. He doesn't hate his father, nothing like that, but he did resent him for the way he was treated as a child. Sidney felt like he lost two parents when his mother died. If his father chose to start a civil conversation with him, Sidney responded accordingly, first of all because he wanted to avoid confrontation and second of all because he still hoped his father might decide he's worth talking to on a regular basis one of these days. There's none of the `I talk, you listen` nonsense that people seem to think is the main dynamic in a pureblood household. When he was younger he was very afraid of his father; Simon had a short temper and Sidney asked a lot of questions. His father would apologize almost immediately after lashing out, but the damage was done for a while. Sidney almost feels silly when he tells people why he disliked his father at times, when he was older they hardly ever fought, he was free to do what he wanted, and Simon would give him money any time he asked for it. Other people were much worse off and they didn't carry on about it. Admittedly, Simon was ill equipped to raise a child, even if said child preferred to read and play quiet imagination games as opposed to running around the house like a maniac. He was much too old to be stuck with a ten year old to deal with all on his own. Even though they live in the same house Sidney and his father rarely talk, it's the best way to maintain a friendly relationship and not have to deal with each other all at the same time.

Sidney's relationship with his mother couldn't be any different, though occasionally, she was just as selfish as Simon. When they would travel together she would leave him with well paid strangers for weeks at a time. Sidney couldn't usually communicate with them because of obvious language barriers and he would be left without any one share his worries with. She was gone for so long he was sure she would never come back, but lo and behold she always did. Usually Hei was much kinder than that. She taught him things he wouldn't have learned otherwise, like always make the best of a bad situation and cherish animals because their souls are much more pure than a human's. Sidney still doesn't eat meant and he can't imagine why anyone would want to harm an animal. For the first ten years of his life, his mother was his primary caretaker, teacher and friend. In the end, Hei was nearly as neglectful as Simon, she loved Sidney, but she may have loved her freedom just a little bit more. Despite that, When Hei died Sidney was absolutely devastated. He still doesn't know if he can forgive her because she did leave him and this time she's never coming back.

Other immediate family: Sidney has a half brother named James from his father's first marriage. Their age difference is so vast James is almost like a second father instead of an older brother. He might as well be, since Sidney saw his brother much more than he ever saw Simon when he was a child. Even now that they're both older and Sidney can take care of himself, their relationship is still that of a father and son. It was James that taught him English and got him ready for school while his father worked. Sidney hardly sees his brother, they had a falling out right before his father sent him to Korea to live with his family. James wanted to be a Death Eater and Sidney thought that was a ridiculous idea. He was worried about his brother but chose to get angry rather than express how he really felt. They send each other letters weekly but for the most part neither one has anything to say to the other.

Extended family: Sidney's extended family is rather small. He doesn't get along well with his sister in law, Margot, she thinks he's selfish and he's inclined to agree, though he'll never tell her that. If asked he'll maintain that he's the only person thinking about himself and if he doesn't do it no one will. Sidney appreciates the way Margot tells it to him straight but that's the only thing he likes about her. Usually he finds her extremely rude and overbearing, he can't stand the way she talks to and about his brother. Sidney gets along well enough with his nieces and nephews. The oldest is only two years younger than him so they've been forced to spend time together most of their lives.
History from student days at Hogwarts to the present time

As a child Sidney favoured his mother over his father, he liked nothing more than helping her in the kitchen or watering the flowers in her garden. His father tried raising him the same way he raised James, doing the typical father son activities. Sidney cried when he got hit with the ball during games of catch, he felt too bad to hurt the fish when they went to the lake and the thought of camping put him in a tailspin of blind panic. Because Sidney's father was usually busy he didn't spend much time with him. His mother, on the other hand, wouldn't let him out of her sight. She had a love for travel and would often take Sidney on extended holidays to various countries. He's lived in Belgium, Korea, New Zealand, Germany, Fiji, South Africa, Brazil, Hong Kong, New York City, Australia, Japan, Peru, Montreal and his favourite country so far, Norway. Sidney developed a more worldly attitude at a younger age because of his travels that prevented him from developing an interest in the mundane lives of his peers. Sidney's mother is a large part of every childhood memory he has, whether it's bad or good. It was rare to see him without her, unless of course she decided she was tired of looking after a child and pawned him off on strangers. He loved Hei because she never tried to make him into anything he wasn't and she allowed him to act like a child. When he was injured, she fixed it, when he was happy or sad, she was the first person he talked to.

When Hei was diagnosed with breast cancer it was just as world shattering for her as it was for Sidney, she tried every treatment available to her but the wizarding world wasn't used to dealing with this strange kind of sickness. By the time she ventured into the muggle world to see what they could do for her it was too late. Instead of spending any more time away from home Hei decided to return to Ireland and die in a familiar environment. She passed away a month before Sidney's eleventh birthday, surrounded by her family and friends. His father was somewhat of a stranger to him so Sidney was never completely comfortable in his presence. Despite knowing that there was nothing more his mother could do, Sidney sometimes hates her for leaving him. Since then he's been morbidly fascinated with death, the religious aspects of it interest him more than anything else. Before Hei died, she told Sidney she could never be happy without him, he sometimes imagines her in Heaven, waiting for him to join her. Even in death, Sidney believes he still couldn't make the only woman he'll ever love happy.

After his mothers death Sidney shut himself off even more from his peers and started to become hostile and sullen. Growing up he rarely had much contact with the other pureblood children around his age; he spent so much time out of the country he was never able to cultivate a friendship with them, though, even if he had the option Sidney was much too shy to approach anyone. He would spend hours alone in his room and would only come out when he was instructed to do so, which wasn't very often. It definitely came as a relief to be finished with primary school, even though he knew his separation anxiety would be worse when it came time to leave home and go to Hogwarts. Because of this Sidney received his first camera; his father thought it would ease the pain of being away from home if Sidney could do something creative to take his mind off of it. Since then he has become more than attached to his camera, it goes with him every where, just in case something happens that needs to be recorded and viewed at a later date and time.

Sidney never had the opportunity to finish his magical education. He was taken out of Hogwarts after his sixth year faster than you can say a war is brewing and if you're smart, you'll get out while you can, which is, more or less, what he did. As much as Sidney would have liked to finish school it simply wasn't an option. After his mother died, his father had taken it upon himself to "protect" him, when he was actually home that is. By protect he really meant lock him in the house, stop keeping the paper around and refuse to tell him anything that was happening outside those four walls. Sidney knew enough about the war from the things he heard people say at school. Of course he was aware of Dumbledore's murder and everyone knew who did it. He was sure Harry Potter and his friends were always up to something and it was obvious that the wizarding world was in disarray, he just wasn't exactly sure of the specifics. In a way he liked it, ignorance is bliss and all. He did wish his father had more confidence in him though, it didn't seem fair to always keep him guessing when all the other kids knew exactly what was happening. Nevertheless, he didn't have much time to ponder anyway, the day Sidney turned seventeen and legally wasn't required to attend school, he was shipped off to Korea to live with his grandparents.

His father was originally going to send him to France but still, it was too close for comfort. With the way the tide was turning in the beginning of the war it looked like Voldemort could really win. Especially after the giants ripped Azkaban to shreds, it almost seemed like his victory was certain. Also, Simon was afraid Fenrir would come looking for Sidney eventually, he heard rumors of pureblood boys being attacked by that horrible werewolf and coerced into joining the war effort. Fenrir could easily travel to France but it would be much more difficult to get to Korea, not to mention unlikely.

There wasn't a great deal of news about the war in Korea, it was mentioned every so often in the local newspapers, usually after a particularly gruesome attack or when there was a shocking bit of news that even the Korean's were interested in discussing. The thing Sidney remembered most during this time was when the Death Eaters were broken out of Azkaban, once again. Sidney was in a bind, on the one hand he supported the Death Eater's, but on the other he was sure they were all a bunch of madmen who were delaying the time it was taking for him to come home. Sometimes he was angry, though, every so often he would hear of something that brightened his day. One of those times was when Bellatrix Lestrange was removed from Azkaban and put in the care of the doctors and St. Mungo's. To Sidney, she was the ultimate villain, but one that should be praised and adored. He admired Bellatrix most of all. She was the most intelligent Death Eater, the only one that managed an insanity defense like a pro. Of course, it could have been because she actually was insane but Sidney preferred to think she was faking it just a little.

In the two years since Sidney was away he neither grew much as a person or experienced any life altering events, perhaps if he had stayed in Britain something of the sort might have occurred. He didn't make any friends or meet any men that were up to his sky high standards. Mostly he shopped, read and waited for something, anything to happen. He waited to go home, something he never thought would happen considering he usually thought about leaving home. He waited mostly for life in general to happen. Those two years in Korea were among the worst times of his life. Not that he particularly wanted any involvement with the war what so ever, he just didn't want to feel so utterly young and useless.

Upon returning to Ireland Sidney found that the rest of the wizarding world certainly hadn't stopped in his absence. The changes were vast; there was a new Minister of Magic, Minerva McGonagall was headmistress of Hogwarts and there seemed to be some sort of tracking device for former Death Eater's and supporters. Sidney was more overwhelmed than anything else, all the changes made didn't suit his taste at all, except for the release of Lucius Malfoy and the werewolf registry. For once half breeds were being shown their place in society, all except for that horrible Remus Lupin. Sidney honestly didn't know what to do, he didn't have any friends to reach out to that would be able to tell him about the last two years. Instead, he ordered every back issue of the Daily Prophet and spent a month at least reading. All at once he was angry with his father and alternately very glad he was away for the duration and some of the rebuilding. Sidney, for once in his life, is trying to set goals for himself. He's nineteen years old and he knows he can't live at home and be a do nothing for the rest of his life. He's looking forward to a more peaceful wizarding world, only, he doubts it'll last very long. If a resistance starts back up he isn't quite sure if he'll take the same path he did last time. Maybe this time he'll stay and watch the show.
